Meet GP
Meet GP, a nine-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (SJIA) at age 3. The complications of SJIA, specifically Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS), were life threatening and required many days of pediatric intensive care. In fact, GP had to fight for his life and fight he did!
Presently, despite the physical challenges posed by GP’s condition, he actively participates in various scholastic and athletic activities. While GP often showcases his athletic ability, his unwavering spirit and kindness towards his coaches, peers and teammates is always present. GP’s participation reflects his belief to embrace life fully regardless of one’s personal challenges. GP has set his sights on following his late grandfather’s footsteps by playing sports collegiately at Clemson University.
In addition to his participation in multiple sports, GP has become a beacon of kindness and positivity within his school. His uplifting enthusiasm for life encourages those around him to adopt a more optimistic outlook and to always lend a helping hand to others in need.
Through public speaking engagements, fundraising events, and social media campaigns, GP actively advocates for those living with SJIA. By sharing his own journey and experiences, he has made a tangible impact on others facing similar situations. GP believes the power of awareness 4 SJIA will result in innovation to positively impact quality of life!
